NeoOffice/J 1.1 Released

It's been a long time coming, but NeoOffice/J 1.1 for the Mac has been released, and you can download it here. NeoOffice/J is a native Mac package and installer for the OpenOffice product, which is an open-source alternative to Microsoft Office. You could of course run OpenOffice on the Mac previously but NeoOffice/J integrates far better with Mac OS X, has native Mac look and feel, and ties in with numerous OS X features that the Java version of OpenOffice doesn't.

I'm about to download NeoOffice, but wanted your take on the app. Is it better, performance wise, then OO? There is no way I'm buying MS Office, so I need something.

Hi Erik--I actually haven't gotten around to downloading it yet. I'm at a conference this week but it's on my list of things to do when I get back. Not sure if it will be any better performance-wise or not, but if you aren't going to buy MS office (and kudos for that) NeoOffice is likely your best option. Of course since it's a Java app it may not perform as well as native apps, but I'm curious to see how it works when I get a chance to install it.
