Good News for CFML Developers: Google App Engine Will Support Java

At the recent Google Developer Day in Bangalore, Google announced that they will support Java on Google App Engine.


This is great news for Java developers obviously, but for CFML developers this means that, depending on how specifically the Java infrastructure works, you will be able to run CFML applications on Google App Engine. Since Open BlueDragon can easily be deployed as a WAR on any Java application server, it will be a matter of dropping the Open BlueDragon WAR on Google App Engine and you have CFML support.


The same will be true of Railo of course, as well as ColdFusion provided you have a license, although it seems to me that the licensing with ColdFusion gets messy quickly due to things like the scalability features of Google App Engine.


I don't believe they've announced specifically how their Java support will work, but I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on this. I'm really excited by the potential of dropping Open BlueDragon on Google App Engine and running some of my CFML applications from there.

This is really great news. I have looked into the app spot and it really seems to be a great environment to build apps. I have many ideas but just can't afford to release a bunch of apps that may not produce any revenue. Thanks for the heads up, can't wait to hear more on it.

Sadly it will not be as simple as dropping a WAR onto their App Engine and it will work.

I will imagine it will be like their python support, working to a given API. Google App engine has no concept of file space, so for engines that create lots of temp files it won't work.

I know there will be re-engineering required to get OpenBD to work on Google App Engine, but i am VERY confident we can do it very quickly.

I have known for sometime that Java is coming, and i know some of the problems they have had to work through, which is why it has been very easy.

well, its out and heres the jre whitelist for appengine...hopefully it won't take too much work to get openbd running on it

The Tall Uggs are great for everybody! You can just slip them on, with, out without socks and your ready to go. Just make sure that you weather proof them first! I have had one pair of ugg classic tall for five years and I am still wearing them. I love Tall Ugg so much.
