With his vocal cords soaked in whiskey and cheap cigarettes, he moves through stories of small towns and blue collar dreams of getting out one day. Oh and the girl that busted up his heart… she is in there too.

My good friend and former co-worker Brandon Culpepper just started this music blog and it’s off to a great start! He has an amazingly deep and broad knowledge of music, not to mention impeccable taste, so this is definitely a blog to follow.

eMusic’s Best Albums of the Decade

Summing up a decade in 100 albums is a terrifying task. How do you determine which albums make the cut? Do you choose the albums that were the greatest game-changers? Or do you go with the albums that had the deepest personal resonance? Is it about global or individual importance? And which records are most emblematic of our age — an era equally fraught with paranoia, despair, optimism and joy?

Some really awesome stuff in this list, and I’m glad they threw this together because I would have missed some of these releases otherwise.

I disagree with some of the choices, though if I take my own likes/dislikes out of the picture I can perhaps see why they’d make the cut. Pretty monumental task to even come up with this list so in general I think they did pretty well.

#2 should have been #1 though. 😉

Getting Back Into Music

Well, I finally broke down and bought a pretty cool m-audio MIDI controller tonight. This all started when I got asked to sub on a gig for my friend’s band by starlight and I realized I didn’t even own a decent keyboard anymore. Being a full-fledged geek now I decided to go the MIDI controller and software synth route, which should be pretty sweet once I get the B4 and Elektrik Piano sounds from Native Instruments. AMAZING sounds and with the controller I got you can pretty much do anything with these sounds. Who needs tons of gear to lug around? The controller and my PowerBook are all I need!
